Information
With spring approaching, the area’s Mixed Martial Arts climate is heating up in anticipation of Victory Fighting Championship (VFC) once again taking the Liberty First Credit Union Arena by storm. VFC 45 Wilk vs Martinez, on Saturday April 4th, will feature the Midwest’s best fighters squaring off in what fighters and fans agree is now the region’s premier MMA organization. In the main event, the high pressure style of Alonzo “Zo Diddy” Martinez meets cool front of Joe Wilk’s submission game. Also on the card, Ryan Jensen 2.0 will look to continue his remarkable winning streak by taking on a surging Josh Rosaaen. And two thunderous hitters meet when Sean Wilson collides with professional boxer Romon Barber.
In his nine VFC appearances, Joe Wilk (18-10) has consistently entertained VFC fans, fighting to a decision just once. Blending toughness, technique and theater, the Gracie Barra black belt is a unique presence inside the cage and owner of 15 career submission victories. Victory fans in Kansas last saw “The Nose” at VFC – Fight Night Fort Riley where he bested submission ace Joe Pearson by armbar in the first round.
Alonzo Martinez (37-17) is one of the most experienced fighters in the region. He is sure to bring a passionate fan base and a ton of veteran savvy with him to any fight. His style is relentless and makes him a tough out for anyone at 145 pounds. His 12 fights in the VFC, dating all the way back to 2003, make him one of the most active fighters in the promotion’s history.
That title, however, goes to Sean “P-Town” Wilson. With 14 fights in the promotion, going all the way back to VFC 2, Wilson is a VFC institution with a brawling style that has never disappointed. Somehow still just 32 years old, P-Town has had over 58 fights. Just one has went the distance. P-Town hits hard and few fighters have the courage to stand and trade punches with him.
Kansas native Romon “Abnormal” Barber is one of the courageous few however. In addition to his growing MMA resume, Barber is a successful professional boxer who displayed his courage when he fought undefeated boxer Frank Galarza in his hometown of Brooklyn, NY. “Abnormal” has the polished hands to go toe to toe with P-Town.
Though Omaha’s Ryan Jensen (20-8) has already competed on the largest stages of the sport, he has just recently entered his prime evidenced by his current five fight win streak. The UFC, Bellator and Strikeforce veteran has won all of his post-UFC fights via first round stoppages. It’s possible that with one more win, those victories could also be pre-UFC as a second stint with the promotion becomes all the more likely.
Josh Rosaaen is 9-2 welterweight from Rapid City, South Dakota. Rosaaen most recently scored an impressive submission victory at VFC Fight Night Rapid City in November of last year. In a career that dates back to 2007, Josh has only had one fight go the distance. Odds of a finish in this fight are high, as Jensen has had even less go the distance; none.
Just as the Midwest’s icy winter subsides and the winds of March die down, the Omaha/Council Bluffs big-event MMA drought will end when Victory Fighting Championship, with its’ new presenting partner Harrah’s Hotel and Casino, bring you VFC 45, April 4th, 2015 in the Liberty First Credit Union Arena.
